The Flying Farangs Hockey League (FFHL)

FFHL Week 4 Recap: 13-Goal Thriller and Wolves Shutout Performance

Week 4 of the Flying Farangs Hockey League delivered two very different but equally exciting games — a high-scoring offensive showdown followed by a composed defensive masterclass.

Game 1: Ratchada Reapers 7 – Yannawa Devils 6

In one of the most entertaining games of the season, the Reapers and Devils combined for 13 goals in a back-and-forth battle. Momentum shifted constantly as both teams pushed the pace.

Jonathan Bourbonnais of the Ratchada Reapers earned Player of the Game honors with two key goals that helped secure the narrow 7–6 victory.

Game 2: Pattaya Wolves 2 – Bangna Beavers 0

The night closed with a clinical performance from the Pattaya Wolves. Strong defensive structure and disciplined play limited chances for the Beavers, and goaltender US delivered a flawless performance.

Stopping every shot faced, US recorded a 100% save percentage shutout to earn Player of the Game honors.

FFHL Week 3 Recap – Tight Games, Big Saves & Mid-Season Social

Week 3 of the Flying Farangs Hockey League delivered another round of competitive-spirited action, featuring a hard-fought draw, a late comeback, and standout individual performances at both ends of the ice.

We took the opportunity to catch a photo with the women who take part in the league with our efforts to promote diversity and access to the sport. (Left to Right: Palm, ZewZew, SueSue, August, Punchy and Nikki. Missing were June and Namtan)

Ralf also handed out a ceremonial puck to Bank of the Yannawa Devils, for his hat-trick last week.

Thanks as always to the players, officials, volunteers, and sponsors who keep FFHL nights rolling.

🏒 Week 3 Results

Game 1: Pattaya Wolves vs Yannawa Devils
Final Score: Wolves 3 – Devils 3
Player of the Game: Jui (Devils) – 25 saves, 89% SV%

A back-and-forth battle ended deadlocked, with momentum swinging all night. While both teams found the net, it was Jui’s performance in goal for the Yannawa Devils that stood out, turning aside 25 shots to secure the draw.
The Pattaya Wolves continued to show balance and pressure, making this one of the most evenly matched games of the season so far.

Game 2: Ratchada Reapers vs Bangna Beavers
Final Score: Reapers 2 – Beavers 3
Player of the Game: Paul (Beavers) – 2 goals

The Bangna Beavers edged out a close one behind a clutch two-goal performance from Paul, capitalizing on their chances in a tight contest.
The Ratchada Reapers pushed hard until the final whistle, but the Beavers’ finishing proved to be the difference.

The Murray Cup

Scotty “Hockey” Murray and the FFHL Murray Cup: Honouring a Thai Hockey Legend

Scotty “Hockey” Murray has been part of the heartbeat of ice hockey in Thailand for decades. A Toronto kid who fell in love with the game at Maple Leaf Gardens, he followed his passion and his pen all the way to Bangkok, where he has spent the better part of his life building, chronicling, and celebrating a hockey community far from the winter rinks of his childhood. Today he is rightly known around the region as the “Godfather” of hockey in Bangkok.

On the ice, Scott has been a driving force behind the Flying Farangs and the expat–Thai hockey family that grew around late-night games in Bangkok’s shopping-mall rinks. Through leagues, tournaments, and countless pick-up nights, he helped create a home for anyone who showed up with skates, a stick, and a love of the game. Just as importantly, he welcomed generations of Thai players into that world, challenging and encouraging them as the level of play in the country rose year after year.

Off the ice, Scott’s greatest gifts have been his stories. In articles like “Hockey Night in Bangkok” and his many pieces on the history of Thai hockey, he captured the absurd joy of playing the world’s coldest sport in one of its hottest cities: the makeshift rinks, the scramble for equipment, the colourful characters who laced them up, and the friendships that kept everyone coming back. His writing made our little corner of the hockey world feel big, meaningful, and worth preserving.

Because of Scotty Murray, Bangkok is firmly on the hockey map. The Murray Cup honours his vision, his generosity, and his belief that hockey is more than a game – it is a community. Every team that hoists this trophy stands on the ice he helped create and carries forward the spirit he brought to Thailand and across Asia.
